The traditional songs that her longhouse-dwelling great aunts taught her are given fresh ethnic-pop life in Sky Songs. It features a combination of global music with soft, lullaby-like voices.

Malay singer-songwriter Alena Murang is also a visual artist, educator, sape player, and performer in endangered languages like Kenyah and Kelabit. She is among the first women to play the sape, a Borneo lute instrument that was formerly (until the 1930s) only played by male healers.
